In this episode, Brett, Brian, and Jason continue their study of the Fourth Petition of the Lord’s Prayer by doing a Bible study on Psalm 23.  In the same way a shepherd tends and cares for the sheep, our Father in heaven tends, cares for, and provides daily bread for his creatures, whether they deserve it or not.

  1. Would it also be okay to read in to the 23rd Psalm the Sacraments and extend the 4th petition to spiritual food as well. Isn’t the paths of righteousness for His name’s sake the declaration of justification? Isn’t the table prepared for me, the answer to my spiritual death, the Lord’s Table? Isn’t the anointing baptism? Can we rightly make this application?

    1. I think all of this is appropriate, but we also need to keep an eye on the original context. The counsel of Scripture and the consistency of God’s Word allows for these interpretations, but we need to be wary of becoming overly allegorical. The Sacraments are certainly present, as is the declaration of justification.
