  1. Great episode! It brought to mind an online conversation I recently had with a couple people who were raised in the “purity culture”. That was a movement after my time, so I am not that that familiar with it. However, the reaction that these people had to it seems to have ended up with them not only rejecting the “purity culture” but purity itself and even simple modesty. I tried to bring Scripture into the discussion, and it was outright rejected as a document that was limited to a particular time and a particular culture. In essence, they seem to have done exactly what you argued, which is reject the Gospel itself.

Even though the “purity culture” was after my time, I still have friends who have had similar reactions to the Fundamentalism in which we were raised. They simply did not have the capabilities to separate the meet of the Gospel from the bones of Fundamentalism and have walked away from the faith. But I still believe God can bring them back and that is my prayer.

Thank you for pointing out that it isn’t just bad doctrine but bad practice (which, of course, is based in bad doctrine) that can produce this result.

    Keep up the good work.
