In this episode, Brett and Jason discuss the nature and spiritual principles of the Third Commandment.  The Third Commandment is more than simply avoiding work on Sunday.  It is about resting in the promises of God’s Word fulfilled for us in Jesus Christ.

  1. I am interested that the purpose for the Sabbath rest is different in each of the two listings of the Commandments. In Exodus the rest is connected to creation and God rested. In Deuteronomy, the rest is connected to freedom from slavery in Egypt. The focus of the Third Commandment is remembering our salvation: “resting” from work unto salvation because Christ has done all that is needed and being freed from our slavery to sin by the redeeming work of Christ. So, faith come by hearing and hearing by the word of Christ. Yes, we gladly hear and learn the Word because it is a Means of Grace.
